The problem is not that we don’t know how to be good people … it’s that we find ways to justify our choosing not to be. We do this, and so, of course, our leaders do too. We cannot expect them to behave righteously if we ourselves are unwilling to do so; that would be hypocritical of us.
An end to war, poverty and starvation will not be possible so long as greed for power, money and influence are tolerated, admired and rewarded.
We have a long way to go, and waiting to change until our leaders do so is futile. The profound changes that are needed must start at grass roots level or we will be doomed to endlessly repeat history’s tragedies, on an ever-greater scale.
